Our State Capitol

What a great field trip today!! I coordinated this trip for our homeschool group because Anastasia is studying all about Arizona right now and it was a really neat trip. We had about 30 kids and 15 adults. We had a great tour guide who loved that we were homeschoolers. It was funny though because the kids were expected to walk single file and raise their hands and while they were excpetionally behaved we joked that they didn't know how to do these things because they were homeschooled! I was a little lost with out having my other three children with and no stroller. They stayed with grandpa and grandma and had a great day too.

We learned some more Arizona history and actually got to sit in the house of representatives. There is a room in the capitol museum that is dedicated to the USS Arizona and that was really neat. Then we ate lunch in the plaza and the kids did a scavenger hunt looking at the different monumnets.

Arizona Capitol buliding. Winged Victory is on top and she is a weather vane that weighs 600lbs.

The original House of Representatives. We got to learn how a Bill can become a law.

A piece of the USS Arizona. It sank at Pearl Harbor and there is a memorial there. This piece was just retrieved and sent to the museum in the 90's.

One of the many memorials in the plaza. We were just amazed that 10 Commandments were actually still displayed in a public place. Shhh.... don't tell anyone.
