Assignment: Tell us all about how your have “your” relaxing time, more especially how during the cooler months you take time to curl up with your favorite movie, book, Bible study, and what your favorite warm drink would be.

Share a picture of your favorite spot in the house or your favorite warm beverage, your favorite movie or book; possibly even your favorite Bible Study or maybe your women’s Bible group.

Well here in the desert we are still waiting for the cooler months.  I am beginning to think it might not happen this year!!!  LOL  but as for relaxing time I love to do that after all the little ones are tucked into bed or on the rare Saturday morning.  My favorite spot is our bed.  We have a king size bed with a canopy and I love to curl up with my favorite blanket (yes I still have a blankie) and read.  My husband got me my blanket 4 years ago for Christmas (to replace a childhood one that needed to be retired) and it is so comfy I just love it.  I always have to have it and my kids love to snuggle with it in my bed too.  My favorite thing to do while relaxing is read.  My all time favorite christian fiction book series are Love Comes Softly by Janet Oke and Red River of the North by Lorraine Snelling.  These are the only books I have ever re-read.  My favorite drink while relaxing is coffee I love all the holiday creamers that come out this time of year.  I also enjoy hot apple cider.

Now if I don't snuggle up on my bed I love to sit on the couch with my blanket and I am excited because this year my husband gave me an early Christmas gift.  We don't have a fire place and we can't use one much here anyways but I miss it.  Well I have been wanting one of those DVD's of a fire place that you play on your TV and it glows and looks like a fire place.  Jay got me one just the other day.  I am so excited as we have a big screen tv and I can play this and it plays Christmas music as well.  I can't wait to play it for the first time on Thanksgiving weekend when we put up our Christmas decorations.

Homeschool Memoirs # 10

The time will be changing again. I think on Sunday but not sure. Anyhow this is our 10th Homeschool Memoirs so this week it’s going to be about 10 timely facts about you! Write 10 interesting, crazy, weird, fun facts about you! Include facts about you as a woman, a wife, a mommy, a homeschooler, a homekeeper, a taxi-driver, a cook, etc .

1.  I am left handed

2.  4 of my 5 kids were born via c-section

3.  I went to France in 5th grade as an exchange student.

4.  I love blogging.

5.  I lived in a dome house once.

6.  All my kids names end in A

7.  I want to design and sell my own unit studies someday.

8.  My husband and I knew we were going to get married after less than a month of dating.

9.  My husband and I will be celebrating our 14th wedding anniversary in February.

10.  I love burning scented candles.

11. I love being able to stay home with my kids.

Election Day at Co-op

Today was election day at Co-op.  There were posters hung, stickers given out, speeches and commericals made, debates held, voting and celebration parties all to wrap up our election study month.  I think the older kids really learned a lot about the entire campaign and voting process.  I think the most important lesson learned was by one girl whose mom said she had been talking the last couple of weeks who to vote for because one girl was her friend and the other gave a really good speech so she was taking this pretty seriously.  Then she finally told her mom "I just need to pray about it and God will help me vote for the right person."  Isn't this awesome.  That is what we all need to be sure and do!

 I really enjoyed my first month of teaching this was a great group of kids. In the kindergarten-first grade class we focused on American symbols, presidents and voting. Our devotions focused on different verses of how God is in control no matter what. Each kid got to go to the voting booth and vote secretly for their favorite snack, either goldfish crackers or pretzels.   Goldfish crackers won hands down!  We graphed our results and then Mrs. Amy taught them about different ways of voting--raising their hands, choosing yes or no, waving their arms silly like, etc.  They learned so much about George Washington, the white house and the presidency.The voting booth

Savannah and Alexa's class did a month long unit study all about pumpkins.  I didn't get pictures because everytime I would go in there Alexa then wanted to come with me and it was a distraction.  But I get to teach in that class in December and I am excited to do Christmas crafts with them!!!

Friday Night Fun Night

Friday nights are usually pretty relaxed around here.  It is just nice knowing it's the weekend and that Jay doesn't have to get up and go to work the next day.  Sometimes we plan fun family things and sometimes we just all "veg"out or the kids go to bed early depending on how the day went! 

This week we had a friend of Anastasia's staying with us for the week.  Her mom was flying to Michigan to take her test to certify her as a midwife!!  So Friday night was game night.  We played a fun game (thanks to my friend   Kymberly’s Blog)  She always has great family games.  This time it was LCR (left right center).  I had played this a few years ago but forgot about it.  I looked around for some candy and we actually had a bag of little individually wrapped pez candies in the cupboard.  You can look up the directions on line to play (I don't know how we survived with out Google).  We just made our own dice and played for candy.  It is great for teaching the little ones their right and left hands. I marked thier hands with washable marker.  They had so much fun playing.  We also had caramel apples and hot apple cider.  When that was done it was time for this weeks episode of Star Wars Clone Wars which everyone likes to stay up and watch on Fridays.  Except for me who falls asleep watching it everytime!!

This Week in Review

This was a good week with some "YES!!!" moments.  The kids had co-op school on Monday but during part of it I took Tasha in for a dr. appt.  She is all stuffy but everything is ok we are all just passing a little bug around!  We skipped PE on Tuesday because Joshua was coughing his head off.  Wednesday and Thursday were good school days.  Anastasia finished explorers.  We will get some pictures of her lapbook up soon.  The little ones are doing a unit on Folk Tales and Fairy Tales.  We are using Evan-Moor Literature Pockets.  So far they have completed the Three Little Pigs and we are working on Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

The "yes" moment (this is where I jumped and shouted for joy)  came Thursday night when Joshua read his books for his daddy.  He read his "Rag" book and I was so excited because he truly read it and didn't have it memorized (which is sometimes easy to do with these beginning reader books).  I was so excited for him.  Because let me back up some....  we put phonics away for about a week and a half he was struggling and not going anywhere with it and I was getting frustrated.  But that is a great thing about homeschooling we were able to just put it up for a while.  Well we got back to it this week and things started clicking for him.  He is excited again and so am I!!!!

Friday Tina and Emily came over and these next two times we are doing activities with "The Little Red Hen".  This week we read the story the kids made an animal book and painted a wheat picture.  Next time we are going to do story sequencing and make some bread.

 

Homeschool Memoirs # 9

I came across The Homeschool Post  from some other blogs and these this assignment looked like a lot of fun so I thought I would give it a try.  I have seen the video (Adams family homeschool) several times before.  It is too cute!  Click here to see the video.

Each family has something special about them… we’re all unique in that way! LOL! I know my family is like no one you’ll ever meet and I’m sure you all can say the same thing! Sometimes God has a sense of humour when creating families, but he has a plan in everything. Isn’t comforting to know we were designed with purpose?

THEME

This week’s theme is about your family. Don’t worry. I’m not going to make you write a long essay about all the great things your family does. Just something little diddy that I know everyone will have fun with!

Ok I have to share I am so excited.  Jay and I completed our first week on Weight Watchers and I lost 7lbs. and he lost 11lbs. !!!!!!!  We didn't go hungry and our family is eating healthier.  Now on to that treadmill........
